Happy Birthday, Ms. Mini!

“Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.” -Dr. Seuss

Happy birthday to my niece! We celebrated her first year with a Minnie themed party and it was perfect. Catered by Chikfila, dessert, and strawberries made it an easy laid back party. She did smashingly well for her first party and entertained every single one of her guests during her cake smash.

We love all the joy you bring into our lives and we’re glad we have a girl in the mix now that you’ve been born. I promise your cousins will protect you and share their noodles with you. Love you, Nattie Mei Mei! Can’t wait for the many memories we’re going to make in the years to come.

Happy Father’s Day!

“A father is neither an anchor to hold us back nor a sail to take us there but a guiding light whose love shows us the way.” -Anonymous

The best word I can think of to sum up Ken as a father to our two boys is “selfless”. I often underestimate the gift of something that grand, but the more I’ve thought about it the more it rings true to our life with him as a father. He is the first to speak up and tell me every single day how happy it makes him to see how his two boys are both such mama’s boys. He doesn’t complain, get upset, or tell us how jealous he is. Instead, he just throws back his head and laughs. He finds it hilarious and blesses me with the freedom to love them wholeheartedly. I recognize he doesn’t have to be like that, he could demand more of me and less of them. But that’s how much he loves me, he sees how much joy they bring into our lives and he being the husband and father that he is, welcomes that over and over again. Thank you for bringing my two soul mates into this world! You’re all that and a bag of chips and I hope you enjoyed your weekend with us without our usual jammed packed schedule! čśë

Memorial Weekend Highlights

“We take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.” -Anonymous

Last weekend, Ken’s cousin and his wife came up to visit us over the long weekend. We had such a good time catching up and spending time hanging out in the backyard watching movies, eating out, celebrating Val’s birthday, and exploring our local wineries in Livermore. However, Juju had the most fun with Auntie Allison. Literally obsessed. Held her hand in the car, told me he didn’t need me to shower with him because he’d rather shower with her, and asked her to hold him every single free moment. It was absolutely adorable. We are already looking forward to our next reunion because I can only listen to Juju ask where auntie and uncle went so many times in a week. čśë

“What could be more important than a little something to eat?”- Winnie the Pooh

Happy 6 months to Roro didi! We had the pleasure of feeding him his very first meal on Friday and it was so much fun watching him scrunch up his face in confusion. It wasn’t until later that night when he tried banana that he was thoroughly pleased with the texture and taste in his mouth. Oh, the wonders of food are finally being explored by this little hungry hippo and I can’t wait to feed him the same foods that I get to feed Jude.

This weekend has been filled with out of town guests, a ton of food, and simply spending time with family. Definitely the best way to spend our three day weekend!

Motherhood

“Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.” -Rumi

I’ve always known that I wanted to be a mom. In the same way that some people grow up knowing they want to be a nurse, a cook, a teacher, or anything else they can imagine…I’ve simply always wanted to be a mom. In high school, I remember being asked to write a letter to myself about who I wanted to be in five to ten years. I remember sketching a classroom, a home, and kids because even then I knew that’s exactly what I wanted if I were lucky enough to obtain it.

In all my years of working with children and falling in love with countless precious souls, I could not have imagined the bond that’s formed between mother and child in the way that I’ve experienced with my two boys. Though motherhood is not made of all rainbows and butterflies, a hell of a lot of it is. It’s quite a miracle that women can birth humans into this world and they grow up to love you back, even when you’re at your very worst. While this has been by far one of the hardest weeks for us as a family and I nearly cried feeling as though I had failed my son earlier this week, four days since we made a big change for Jude I’ve seen my little light shine brighter than he has in a long time. ┬áToday, on what some people may call it “my” day I wanted to capture the joy that’s spewing out of the one I love┬áat this very moment. It’s funny how as Jude gets older, my views on motherhood continue to change. All I wanted to do was to wake up this morning and make Juju his favorite breakfast. I wanted to┬ásee his eyebrows raise in delight as he asked me in Chinese if I was his favorite breakfast dish. All I wanted to do today was to be a mom. I just want my two boys to know that I really would do anything for them.

You both have fulfilled┬ámy dreams in more ways than I could’ve every fathomed. Thank you for making me your mama and for bringing out the very best in me.

Bro Life Gets Better & Better

“We didn’t realize we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun.” -Winnie the Pooh

It has been an absolute joy to watch Juju and Roro getting to know each other more and more with each passing month. This month in particular has been fun, Ronan has learned to sit up, engage as soon as he locks eyes with anyone around him, and grab ahold of things near his fists. I can’t wait for these two to run around outside in the backyard one day, but for now having these two share bath time is just the cutest. Ronan with all his rolls and his brother who wants to help with everything, makes this simple chore something that I look forward to every single time. Happy 5 months, my sweet child.

Roro’s Red Egg Ginger Party

“Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognize how good things really are.” -Marianne Williamson

Last weekend we celebrated Ronan’s Red Egg Ginger Party. Ronan┬áhad a chance to meet family and friends who haven’t had hungout with┬áthis chunkster yet. We decided to hire a Taiwanese food truck to cater the event and my brother helped me make a second batch of cookies after finding out how many people were coming for the day. All the prep work, cleaning, and setting up was sure worth it. Even big brother, Juju had a blast and asked first thing the next morning, “Where is Didi’s party? Where did everybody go?” Guess we’ll just have to wait for the weather to warm back up and to throw another party. čśë
