Happy 5 months, my Nugget!

“Your children will become who you are; so be who you want to be.” -Anonymous

My little chunky nugget is now 5 months old! I can’t believe how fast time is flying. After completing a week of training, I was so excited to spend time with Jude. We visited my dear friend, Lexi and her beautiful little Fiona Rue yesterday. We met when we were in our credential program and spent HOURS together, before we became teachers, wives, and now mothers. I couldn’t be happier for her. Here’s to a wonderful summer with family and friends!

Best at 30

“There are two great days in a person’s life- the day we are born and the day we discover why.” -William Barclay

Last weekend, I celebrated my 30th birthday with several low key meals. In my reflections with what I’ve done with my life thus far, I am content knowing that I am not finished with fulfilling my calling. Looking back at all the important moments during my childhood that led up to my discovery of who I wanted to be and the kind of life I wanted to lead, I am glad to see that I haven’t lost my way. I feel lucky to have had so many incredible people influence my life in ways that supported my growth as an individual. The fact that most people in my life can say that I’ve remained true to the person they knew me to be when I was 15 years old assures me that I’m on good path. May Christ continue to be the center of my life. He is the reason I want to continue loving extravagantly. I hope I never take anything for granted, each year of my life, each friend that I have.

Father’s Day Moments

“One father is more than a hundred schoolmasters.” -George Herbert

On Father’s Day this year, I grabbed my camera and snapped a few sweet shots of Ken with Baby Jude. I wrote to Ken and told him I would rather have Jude become the man that he is, rather than marry a wife like me and I meant every word that I said. I am so lucky to be married to a man that has the biggest heart in the world, who always says the sweetest things, and cares deeply for the things of His kingdom.

A Wedding to Remember

“Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.” -Mother Teresa

I’ve attended my share of weddings, but I have yet to see a bride beam up at her husband the way that Bern did last weekend. Literally every second she stood before him, it was as if she were living out a simple day dream. I pray blessings over her and the life she’s about to begin with her new husband.

I just realized I accidentally deleted all the photos from her wedding. F-A-I-L I thought I had finished saving and categorizing all the photos from last weekend, but it turns out I didn’t download her actual wedding photos before formatting my card. I could cry. All that I have left now, are our precious family photos that Joan took and Long directed. What a gift it is to have youth group kids grow up to become such incredibly talented individuals. I cannot thank them enough for helping us capture Jude lighting up our worlds. I wish I still had all the rest of the photos. Thank goodness other people had their cameras from that day.

Bern’s Beautiful Bridal Shower

“The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart.” -Elizabeth Foley

I’ve known Bernice since she was in elementary school and seeing her again after all these years, reminded me just how special and unique she is. There are not many people in this world that could summon friends from around the world to join for a wedding halfway across the world. I couldn’t believe it when I got to her Bridal Shower, there were people there from Zimbabwe, Germany, China, the UK, and a bunch of other places. Looking at Bernice beaming in the presence of her dear friends from around the globe warmed my heart. The conversations I had with the ladies sitting at my table were real and deep. Having just met them, I realized this could only be made possible because Bernice is the one that ties us altogether. She brings out the best in people, she’s never afraid to challenge and stretch her friends, and ultimately her love for reaching out has always been her greatest gift. I could not be happier for her and community that she’s been surrounded by since her move to China, Singapore, and now possibly India.

Rollie Pollie Mornings

“The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.”

These photos have to be some of my favorite from this trip. I feel like they were the “firsts” of many in a long time. It’s the first time in almost three decades that I was able to wake up my brother without irritating him. Even Abe can’t stay asleep when he has Jude grinning up at him. This is also the first time I’ve been able to capture photos of Abe smiling. Not a half smile, not a smirk, but a genuine beaming smile. Score! And this was the first time that we were able to snap photos of Jude when he’s at his absolutely happiest, awake after a whole night of sleep. Thanks to Abe, I went to bed with a full belly every night and comfortable in his bed. This included being handed perfectly toasted smores and being fed delicious bbq.

p.s. Did I mention, Jude slept on the dog bed? Perfect size for the little man. =p

“Family are like branches, we all grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one.”

This past weekend, we took Baby Jude down to sunny San Diego for his first vacation ever. It was simply priceless watching him give his Uncle Abe his big toothless grin over and over again. Of course, Jude had to dress the part to meet up with his uncle! I scored this cute little onesie at Carters a couple months ago and couldn’t wait for him to fit into it.

All I can say is, having a weekend to spend not only with my brother but with my old WVCAC youth was perfection. I apologize in advance for the many blog posts to come. I simply can’t fit all the goods all at once, so I’m going to be spreading out Jude’s adventures throughout this upcoming week. We’ll start with his very first beach experience after we dined at George’s. How could we resist? The beach was literally within walking distance. The best part of seeing these photos is being able to relive the fun and the memories all over again. Time to go, the little tyke is awake!
