Family & Favorites

“A happy family is but an earlier heaven.” -George Bernard Shaw

The start of 2013 has been filled with incredible new learnings gleamed not from having the perfect start, but from the beauty of living. I have found peace in the knowing that each lesson and each day comes with an understanding of who I am and who stands by my side. This past week amongst the chaos of every day living, I have surrounded myself with my past and my present and that is what I want to remember. I started this week with my loving cousin and ended this week with my loving husband. I am blessed and that is enough.

Choices

December 3, 2012 @ 6:30 p.m.

A: “Did I tell you last time when I dreamed you were pregnant that you were were pregnant in January?”

December 11, 2012 @ 11:38 a.m.

B: “Hey Rose, you guys are still trying, right?”

R: “We are. Still nothing, but yes we are trying.”

B: “Last night, before I went to sleep I felt like God said it was gonna happen soon. It was very…distinct.”

On December 31, 2012, right before heading out for our New Year’s party, we found out we were expecting our first child. We were ecstatic and simply overjoyed. We could not have asked for a better way to start off the new year. Our excitement was short lived, the following weekend after we found out we were expecting, I began to experience increasing cramping and bleeding. I still remember Sunday night, coming before God in prayer and writing in my journal, “I seal this with an amen.” When I closed my journal, something compelled me to look up the word “amen.” I have spent a lifetime ending every single prayer, big or small, never knowing what amen stood for. That night, I discovered “amen” means “so be it.” So be it whatever decision is made, I am going to trust in His sovereign plan. I have always believed that God can take the ugly and the bad and create new life and purpose in all things. My beliefs were put to the test this past week.

On Tuesday, I was admitted into the emergency room, where my dear redheaded friend stood by my side for the next three hours. That evening, I was informed we had lost our first child. Though our time together was short, the aching of what could have been will always echo in our hearts. I have an opportunity to choose in this situation.

I choose to be grateful…

for those that cared for me this week.

I choose to be joyful…

for the deepening of friendships, with those who have shared similar heartache.

I choose to live…

beyond this moment.

I choose to celebrate…

the discovery that I am fertile.

I choose to remember…

in my redheaded friend’s beautifully scripted handwriting the peace that was given to me.

I choose to believe…

that one day we will have a child of our own.

Come what may, I will choose to view each day, each moment, and each child as a gift.

“So be it”

15 Minute Closet Makeover

What happens when you surround yourself with fabulous friends, coffee table books, and the internet? You wake up wanting to make instant changes. This morning was no different, I woke up, threw on my spectacles, and grabbed an old roll of shelf liners (T.J.Maxx $3.99). I emptied out an old shelf in my coat closet and began my mini makeover, in order to make room for my new bookends. Courtesy of the 50% section at Zgallerie.

Why the dog ends? Suki is the reason for my obsession. Whenever I create a new vignette  I like to bring something new and something old together. It’s not just how I create spaces in my house, but how I’ve been created. It’s both the past and the present that make me who I am. In my dedication to the past, I pulled out three old classics I remember taking from my grandfather’s library when he passed away while I was in high school. Until next time…woof, woof.

His & Hers

Those of you who are Type A, OCD, and slightly neurotic might understand my need to have things in a certain order, in a certain way. My poor hubs, has suffered from my unreasonable living expectations for more than three years. There’s a legitimate reason why I do the laundry, even if he tried I’d end up redoing everything anyways.

To help with my insane lifestyle, between commuting from the South Bay to the East Bay day in and day out, caring for a 112 pound rottie, and loving my many side hobbies, I take all the shortcuts I can. Let me introduce to you my favorite tool. The almighty acrylic folding board. All who have spent time working retail know the power of an acrylic board. Last year, my work twin and I decided to purchase legit boards. Don’t worry, I won’t leave you hanging.

We begin with a pile of sweaters…

Tips: Embrace the inner organizer. Create an account at http://www.robertham.com. Check your email, look for a coupon code, and purchase as many acrylic boards as your heart desires. For the record, they would make a great Valentine’s gift…just sayin.

Poshmark Obsession

Happy New Years! I know many of you are probably making a list of new years resolutions and one of them having to do with “saving up more money”. If that’s on your list, you’re not the only one.

Who doesn’t like having a couple side jobs to save up and splurge on something you love? I wanted to share with you what I’ve been obsessed with for the last eight months. Two of my best friends attended a Poshmark Party in April and came back raving about this new iphone app. I decided to begin my closet purge, alongside my lovely lady friends. Since then, I’ve sold items I’ve owned between one to five years old, making close to $3,000 back. Instead of using a separate budget to purchase newly needed items, I first sell something I already own. That’s how I’ve started my “revolving closet concept”. Most girls can only rewear the same dress a couple times to different weddings with the same friends in attendance. Poshmark solves your problem. You wear it, pose in it with your hair all done, looking all fancy and come home to post your dress.

I was lucky enough to visit Poshmark’s headquarters today and visit with one of their fabulous team members. The team members are real people, with real lives, with real passion. I hope we can all do what we love every day of our lives.
